Un été en Ayiti

(2016)

Series of life drawings of different sights, moments, and dreams in Haiti... after six years without having set foot in Haiti.

My parents still live in Haiti, and thus at least every two, four years, I try to travel back home to visit.

My goal was to collect drawings in which my main focus was to observe my hometown through a different lens after constantly traveling and growing up outside of Haiti. Through the words, the colors, the landscape, I try to grieve, hold on to, remember, and put to light some memories of my childhood vs. my actual present reality as I still naively struggle with my own identity and dissect the meaning of a"home."

Traveling sketchbook collection.

Mixed media: sharpies, markers, oil pastel, and pen on sketchbook paper.
